    Modern Cars Would Be:

    Corolla
    Accord
    Civic
    Camry
    Altima
    Maxima

I say the nissan versa. It was rated as the best small car (rated by: reliability, safety, and price) You can get the base model for about $9,000 and is much cheaper than a toyota, or honda but matches its features “COME ON PEOPLE”

Ford Focus. Cheapest of the trio: Corolla, Civic, Focus. You could lump the subaru impreza 2.5 (non-turbo) in there as well…but in my opinion it’s too nice of a car to actually give a teenager and it probably has too much displacement for a first car. You want something with a 1.8-2.2L engine. Theneelster

It should be 4-door, 4-cyls, not sporty. I would prefer Honda or Toyota… First time drivers usually have much more expensive car insurance, and it depends from car. You should compare insurance rates while choosing the car – for example here – carinsurance.yoll.net Nick
